The following digital pattern is for a pair of 18th Century mitts/ gloves

During the 18th century mitts were worn by ladies of every social background. They were worn for a number of reasons, such as keeping warm, protecting their hands from the sun or as a fashion accessory.

Mitts were made from a variety of fabrics and could include wool, cotton, linen or silk depending on their preferences or social standing. The more decorative the occasion, the more the mitts could be embroidered and the more expensive the fabric.

This pattern is a good starting block as they can be modified to give the best fit. I always suggest making a quick mock up in a cheap fabric to adjust the pattern to fit best.

This pattern includes a digital downloadable pattern and instruction booklet that can be printed at home on A4 paper.

I hope you will have fun creating your own special pair of mitts. This is a nice beginner project.

Happy sewing.
